One of the great things about Bill was that he didn't let the little things get him down. Like the time he cut the end of his finger off (not very convenient for a drummer) or when his apartment in Rochester got broken into the day after he moved in (everything easily lifted as it was still in boxes) or the time that he sent his check in for Woodstock tickets ($18.00 for three days) and they didn't arrive by the time we left for the weekend. In fact, we spent the entire day before the music started trying to find the ticket booth. Of course, as it turned out, you didn't need tickets to get into Woodstock, so there you have it.
ReplyDeleteThen there's the famous story of how Bill was held up in upper Manhattan. Apparently, late one night a young man approached Bill and asked for his cash. Bill being Bill didn't have any...showed him his empty pockets. While this little scene was going on, Bill noticed that the young man's attention was on a person approaching them. The would be robber turned to Bill and said, what do you say..we hold up that guy? Bill told him he wasn't interested...and well that was that!
